Transactions at 2018 Global Innovation and Entrepreneurship Fair Reached RMB 30.548 Billion
On the afternoon of May 19, 2018, the Press Office of the Chengdu Municipal Government hosted the "Press Conference on the Achievements of 2018 Global Innovation and Entrepreneurship Fair" and announced performances of main activities at this edition of the Fair. With a myriad of events such as high-end forums, key factors trading, index releases and start-up competitions, this session of the Fair successfully held 14 main programs and 25 supporting events. More than 2,400 guests (including over 300 foreign participants) attended the Fair, and 60 plus venture capital firms participated in the project roadshows and achievement sharing sessions. Total value of various types of transactions and trades amounted RMB 30.548 billion, while at the same time Chengdu's international circle of friends enlarged and its foreign influence augmented as the number of international sister cities and cities with friendly cooperative relations rose to 88.
Scale reached new height
As a major global innovation and entrepreneurship event, this year's Global Innovation and Entrepreneurship Fair won over the interest of people from various industries and sectors around the globe. It has been understood that this edition of the Global Innovation and Entrepreneurship Fair successfully invited more than 2,400 guests (including over 300 foreign participants) to attend including two Nobel Prize laureates, four academicians and more than 50 leaders of world-famous institutions of higher education from nations and regions such as the United States, Canada, Russia, Germany, Japan and South Korea, alongside some 120 well-known enterprises such as Qihoo 360, SenseTime and Ping An Good Doctor, while 60 plus venture capital firms participated in the project roadshows and achievement sharing sessions.
Worth noting is that 70 mainstream media outlets and 257 mainstream media journalists from both China and overseas participated in and reported on this edition of the Fair. At the same time, activities such as "World Future Science and Tech Forum," "2018 Global Unicorn Enterprise Forum" and "Xinglong Lakeside - New Economic Development Forum" were also broadcasted live online via platforms like tv.people.com.cn, Xinhua News Agency's Live Cloud and vcloud.163.com/live, which garnered viewership of over one million person/times.
Fruitful results at the Fair
This year's Global Innovation and Entrepreneurship Fair played host to a total of eight roadshows that matched capital with projects in the new economy, involving nearly 700 innovation and entrepreneurship projects, of which transactions were undertaken for a hundred public roadshow demo projects, with another hundred inducted into recommendation handbook, while project transaction value amounted to RMB 20.49 billion. At the special session on transaction in technology, 3,123 cases of technology transaction were actualized, totaling technology transaction value at RMB 9.608 billion, a rise of 14.9% compared with a year ago. Meanwhile, at the human resources special session, 300 employers were organized to participate and they offered 2,125 positions and 10,203 openings, while visitors to this job fair numbered 12,000 person/times.
Worth mentioning is that the first "Xinglong Lakeside - New Economic Development Forum," which took place on May 18, arranged the "New Economic in Chengdu" project promotion fair, where 20 projects gained exposure and 12 participating enterprises out of a total of more than 60 earned cooperation intentions on-site at the event. At the "EU-China Tech Scale-up Summit" held on the same day, numerous cooperation agreements were signed including Memorandum of Understanding on Chengdu Special Fund of the China-Europe Regional Cooperation Fund and those for the China Center of the International Venture Capital Club and China-Europe Technology Transaction Center.
Furthermore, Chengdu's international circle of friends also expanded. At the 2018 Innovation Forum for Mayors of International Sister Cities of Chengdu that took place on May 18, Kampala of Uganda and Kandy of Sri Lanka respectively signed memoranda of understanding on establishing friendly cooperative relations with the city of Chengdu, while a letter of intent for economic and cultural collaboration was inked between Toronto and Chengdu. In addition, cooperation agreements totaling two billion yuan were also signed between Toronto and the cities of Dujiangyan and Pengzhou, as well as between the Malaysian state of Malacca and Chengdu's Qingyang District.
